Understanding Pesticide Regulations in Alaska

Navigating Alaska's Pesticide Registration Requirements

This requirement encompasses both EPA-registered products and 25(b) products, which are minimum-risk pesticides exempt from federal registration but still subject to state registration.

Registration Process

Initial Registration:

All pesticide products must be registered with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). This process involves submitting necessary documentation and paying a registration fee of $120 per product. The documentation required includes the product label, EPA-approved label, any other EPA documents revising the product label, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and any supplemental distribution forms if applicable.

Registrants can complete the registration online through Kelly Registration Services, which charges an additional $5 fee for their service. This applies to both new registrations and renewals (DEC Alaska) (DEC Alaska).

Renewal of Registration:

Each November, the DEC sends renewal notices to registrants with instructions for renewing their product registrations for the upcoming year. The renewal process is similar to the initial registration and includes the same $120 fee plus the $5 online service fee (DEC Alaska).

Specific Product Requirements:

Products targeting specific pests, such as 25(b) bed bug products, must meet additional efficacy data requirements to ensure their effectiveness. These criteria are detailed on the DEC’s website (DEC Alaska).
